Today’s video shows you how to repair a ding on the rear bumper of a 2005 Honda Pilot.
Avoiding dings in your car sometimes seems impossible. It can even happen while parked, and when we return, we see a dent on the side of our car (I’m looking at you, shopping cart!).
Luckily, you can solve this without the need to go to a repair shop.
In this post, you´ll see how easy it is to repair that ding on your car bumper.
YOU CAN USE
- Straight steel bar.
- Crowbar.
- Heat gun.
If you don´t have a heat gun, use hot water.
DO THE FOLLOWING
STEP 1: APPLY HEAT TO THE DENT
The bumpers of modern cars are plastic, so they are malleable.
By applying heat, we add malleability.
Our Jack uses a heat gun (Jobmate heat gun) over the entire area of the ding for approximately three minutes.
As you can see at 0:53 in our video
STEP 2: PUSH THE DING
After heating the bumper, our Jack uses a metal bar to push the ding from the inside out.
If you notice that the bumper no longer yields when pushed, reapply hot air.
In this case, our Jack swaps between the metal bar and a crowbar to get a better result. The crowbar has a smaller section, which pushes the ding more precisely than the metal bar.
The job was a little tricky because it was not easy to access the inside of the bumper, and as we tried to push out the ding, the bumper cooled down.
Our Jack then tried, at the same time, to apply heat and push the ding with the crowbar.
That worked!

STEP 3: REVIEW THE WORK
In this case, our Jack slightly deformed the bumper outward. He pushed the bumper inward with one of the tools to get to its original shape.
Do not apply too much pressure, or you will ding the bumper again or damage the paint.

TO WRAP THINGS UP
If you are someone who simply doesn’t like the look of your vehicle marred by dents, then you can apply what you’ve learned in this post.
If you have trouble repairing the bumper from the inside, there are tools to suction out the dent, such as a suction cup pump.If you want to know a different way to fix dings and dents on your car, check out our post “(I´m going to refer to the video where Roman uses filler to fix a dent).”
